SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST

One of the most valuable musical experiences in the band program is the Solo and Ensemble Contest held each year at the end of February. This experience challenges all participants to perform chamber (small group) music for a professional musician in a contest setting. In addition to being a unique individual performance experience, the contest also provides significant motivation for students to perform at their best and to improve as musicians. The “judge” gives comments to the students and evaluates the performance. Students who earn a “Superior” rating are recognized at the last band concert. Judges also name outstanding entries in the contest. Students earn letter points for participation.

All Wind Symphony students are required to participate in the contest as a soloist. Other students are highly encouraged to participate. Freshman students participate in their own solo and ensemble experience designed as an introduction to chamber music in late April.

This year's Solo & Ensemble Date is Monday, February 27th.  See directors for more information.
